Big, big weekend: The Happening at Copper Square

Tomorrow explore downtown Phoenix with a range of activities from morning to night and ending with a unique fireworks show launched from the tops of downtown garages. Check it out:

Beginning at 11am, the 2nd Annual Downtown Phoenix Loft @ Home Tour profiles the most recent projects to hit the ground downtown including:

1. The Summit at Copper Square

6. Roosevelt 11
7. 215 East McKinley
8. 44 Monroe

Developers and representatives from each of the projects will be on hand to answer your questions or to help you check out some of the remaining units. Check in is required and the ball gets rolling promptly at 11am so jump on the available DASH shuttles and taste the new housing flavors cooked up in our morphing downtown. Oh, the linked project above, Roosevelt 11, is where I'll be so I expect all of you to grab your checkbook and buy one of the remaining units in one of the best located projects near the dynamic Biotech campus, ASU, and right off the 7th St/!-10 connection. These are great lofts and offer some of the best pricing anywhere downtown. I'm waiting!

The "What's Happening Street Expo" on culture, entertainment, and education in Copper Square. Between 4-7PM, check out the products, sample menu items, and preview upcoming seasons in a street fare setting. Participants will include retailers, restaurants, arts & cultural groups, sports and entertainment groups, and educational and science institutions. There will also be live entertainment on the PAPA stage and a range of street performers.

The Phoenix Annual Parade of the Arts is known as "The World's Only Parading Arts Fair" and gives all members of our community the opportunity to express themselves through costumes, art, and performance while marching together through the streets of Copper Square.

Everyone is invited to walk, ride, dance, or crawl along in the parade. Attendees not interested in parading are welcome to line the streets and cheer the procession. PAPA will be located at 2nd Street, between Washington and Jefferson.

A little deeper into the night look up and witness the Copper Square Fireworks Show. Starting at 10PM the fireworks will be launched from multiple garage-top locations and will cap off a wonderful day exploring Phoenix's Copper Square events-.

Finally, for those that can't get enough. begins the Copper Square Pub Crawl where 10 Copper Square Bars (oh, yes, every other restaurant and bar downtown will also be swinging their doors open for some consumer love!) will treat you to entertainment, food samples, and drink specials available only for Pub Crawl registrants. Make it a contest, collect beads, and collect a prize at the end of the night. Check out the link to register.

So stop whining that nothing ever happens compared to the other big cities. Show your support, help build this uniquely Phoenix event, and have a great time in the process.

Thai Cultural Days: a festival of Thailand

Organized by the Thai American Friendship Organization, the Thai Cultural Days festival is designed to promote the richness and diversity of Thai culture as well as foster cross-cultural understanding between the peoples of Thailand and Arizona.

The 5th Annual Thai Cultural Days will introduce Arizonans to beautiful Thailand and all that it has to offer,” said Chantri S. , President of Thai-American Friendship Organization. Opening ceremonies will be held both days at 12:00pm. Special guests invited include the Thai Ambassador to the U.S., Governor Janet Napolitano, Secretary of State Jan Brewer and Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon. “The general public and all organizations and their members are invited to the festival," Ms. Sukpon said.

Adults and children, alike, will experience the unique culture, traditions, cuisine and products of Thailand. Gold, fuchsia, pink and green rice paper umbrellas of all sizes will adorn the festival grounds. Continuous entertainment will flood the stage, ranging from Thai classical dancers with their headdress and colorful costumes to a Thai musical band and its unique instruments to Thai cultural shows, including demonstration of a traditional Thai wedding. Throughout the festival grounds will be authentic Thai food, unique products of Thailand and a showcase of beautiful sites to visit in Thailand. Food and beverage will be available for purchase at the Thai cuisine pavilion.

Boo! "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" awaits

"The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" is the perfect Halloween treat:

The Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department will present one of the most famous ghost stories of all time – “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” This American classic, written by Washington Irving, is filled with thrills, chills and laughter and revolves around the main characters: bumbling Ichabod Crane, beautiful Katrina Van Tassel, Ichabod’s brutish rival, Brom Bones and the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow.

Performances will be held Oct. 25 to 27 and Nov. 1 to 3 at the . The curtain goes up each evening at 7 p.m., with additional Saturday performances at 2 p.m.

The performers are part of the department’s Phoenix Center Youth Theater troupe, which stages high-quality productions throughout the year.

Moonlight Movie in the Park: Halloween's special treat

If you missed Moonlight Movie in the Park last Saturday keep your calendars open for October 27 when the perennial favorite "It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" accompanied by "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" brighten up the lakeside space in the park. Starting at sundown, the free event promises urbanites the chance to feel the night breeze in a laid back community environment . The kids will love it ..... and you for taking them.

Roosevelt Row Harvest Festival 2007

Tonight and tomorrow Roosevelt Row features the 2007 Roosevelt Row Harvest Festival. This free outdoor urban festival features exhibit openings and artist receptions, entertainment, refreshments, and a wine tasting on Friday night. Saturday's lineup includes all the open retail, bar, and restaurant doors within the unique Roosevelt district, a beer garden, live music, and street vendors. Children's activities will include pumpkin bowling, cookie decoration, children's music, a safety helmet giveaway, and just the eye-candy that all the crowds will produce.

Perhaps the star attraction of the entire event on Saturday is the vendor booth I'll be manning which represents my own special project listing, Roosevelt 11. Now just weeks from final completion, Roosevelt 11, on Roosevelt just east of 7th Street, offers excellent value and a phenomenal location in the transitioning Garfield Historic District. Close to ASU, the Biotech campus, Heritage Square, the Arizona Center, and generally the entire downtown hub, Roosevelt 11 is the newest loft project you'll find downtown and it's all at the right price, with the right features, great aesthetics and probably the nicest broker you'll ever talk to. Saturday will also include the Roosevelt Action Association Home Tour from 11am-4pm. Tour a selection of many of the finest homes in the Roosevelt historic neighborhood. Tickets are available in the Roosevelt neighborhood at 3rd Avenue and Culver. Tickets are $15. Receive a $5 discount for bringing a can of food to benefit St. Mary's Food Bank or mention the Roosevelt Row Harvest Festival. Proceeds benefit the Roosevelt Action Association.

Phoenix Old World Oktoberfest 2007

Well, I tried to get this off early this week but I had to upgrade my online Flickr account to "Pro" to get this series loaded .... and it took forever to upgrade my status. All things are now good in pictureland and I can finally bring you some of the beer-soaked love from last weekend's event.

Bond, cry, and search for funding: The Second Annual Entrepreneurs Conference

Several seasoned entrepreneurs will share their experiences at the Second Annual Entrepreneurship conference Nov. 8 at the Phoenix Airport Marriott.

2007 Old World Oktoberfest kicks off today in Phoenix

The focus of the Old World Oktoberfest in the park is to celebrate the German heritage and culture with the traditional "Gemuetlichkeit" and entertainment with the Guggenbach Buam and the Guggenbach Trio directly from Germany. Local talent will entertain you with traditional dances, and the special German student dance group the DANK FUNKEN will perform their newest repertoire.
Children can experience challenges from a rock climbing wall, crafts and other amusement in the Children's village. The choices in traditional German Food prepared by our native chef from "Der Kaffeekuchen" in Peoria include the typical Bratwurst and also schnitzels, roasted chicken with all the trimmings such as potato salad, sauerkraut, pretzels and the world famous apfelstrudel. To round out the typical Oktoberfest there will be "Warsteiner, the queen of beers" to quench your thirst.

The Alphorn blowing contest is an all-time favorite with musicians and those with the desire try out this unique instrument. Our raffle will give you the chance to win four roundtrip tickets to Germany sponsored by Lufthansa Airlines. The famous Polka contest will again award the best dance performance with prizes and so will the Bier Stein holding contest for men and women. The Dial Corporation will exhibit products that are designed and marketed right here in the valley. The juried Sauerkraut contest will recognize the creator of the best tasting Sauerkraut.
